Blog v Wiki

With blogs, posts are usually made by only one person but with wikis, many people work together to share information. Bloggers share their opinions on topics while wikis share all the facts related to a topic. Wikis are constantly being edited as new information comes out. On a blog, new posts are made to include new information.

Convergence is extremely important as it allows for information to be gathered quickly with many people working together on a set goal. It can help to accomplish things that could not have been done otherwise.

A prime example of how blogs can be used for collaboration is shown in the article "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid" where a group of people gathered together and exchanged information that led to the police raiding two houses in the neighborhood for drugs (Wilson, 2008). One might not expect anything to come out of people just commenting on suspicious things they have noticed about those houses but it slowly led to action being taken by the people. When people gather together to express their opinions, they can encourage each other to take the next step and take action for the better of the community.

It would be very hard to find a new use for a wiki. Wikis can be useful for a team project and as shown in the article "More on How to Build Your own Wikipedia," Tony Pagliarulo's team was able to complete their project more quickly due to everyone being able to access the same up-to-date information (Locher, 2008). Both blogs and wikis can be important tools in today's world.

Pros And Cons Of Social Media On Society

Social media has a great impact on people all around the world. Its effects can be both positive and negative. On one hand, social media is extremely convenient and allows people to communicate to many others in practically no time at all. It allows for people to show their talents to a great number of people and even earn a living from it. On the other hand, it can be really easy for private information to be leaked and used by those with malicious intent. Cyberbullying is becoming increasingly more problematic as time goes on. While social media can be extremely beneficial to those looking to get noticed by employers, it can also be harmful in that once something is posted on the web, it will stay there forever.
